Heliacal Rise
The heliacal rising of Sirius is the yearly occurrence when the brightest star, Sirius, becomes visible in the sky. That happens around August each year, and the specific day depends on the geographic latitude and the year. On that particular day, Sirius becomes visible for the first time for a few seconds shortly before sunrise in the morning at the eastern horizon. That day was an essential event for ancient Egyptian civilization, as it indicated the beginning of their new year. A few temples were aligned to that location on the horizon where Sirius appears for the first time each year; most prominently, the Hathor Temple at Dendera, near Luxor. Also, the southern shaft in the Queen's Chamber of the Great Pyramid at Giza is considered, with its 38° angle, to be related to Sirius. Specifically, its upper culmination angle, the maximum elevation above the local horizon it reaches, matches that angle at the time when the pyramid is assumed to have been built. Heliacal Rise shows with a camera view and an overlaid visual compass indicator the horizon locations of Sirius's heliacal rising and setting, along with dates and times. The built-in calculation automatically adjusts to the phone's location. Still, it can also be switched to manual location mode so you can view the heliacal rising for any location on Earth. And very special about Sirius is that it also shows the time and elevation above the local horizon of its yearly midnight culmination on New Year's Day. That's special for the star Sirius to reach its highest nightly location above the horizon at midnight between December 31, 23:45, and January 1, 0:15, depending on geographic location, timezone, and year. Every star has its day of the midnight culmination, but they are distributed throughout the year, and only the Sirius Midnight Culmination occurs at midnight into the New Year. In the current first version 1.0.2, the calculation is limited to the years between 1 and 2300, with the range 1583 through 2030 showing results which differ only by +-10 seconds compared to astronomical software. Below the year 1583 the precision regarding time isn't good yet and can be off by up to 2 days, but the horizon position is correct within 0.1 degrees compared to other common astronomical apps. That will be further improved in an upcoming update and also to reach much further into the past and include the times of the pyramids. With HDR, the images glow brightly in high contrast on the screen, not visible here in the screenshots as it can only be experienced on the device. Images taken only a few hours ago on planet Mars by NASA Perseverance Rover currently driving in and around Jezero Crater are shown with the areoHDR app. This is currently the only app showing real Mars images in high dynamic range (HDR) and color calibrated for human vision to bring the experience, human explorers on Mars would have themselves, to iPhone and iPad. To navigate through the sols (days on Mars since landing) and images of each sol, either tap on the two up/down buttons on the right side or swipe horizontally or vertically or rotate the wheel with the sol numbers. Double tap or pinch with two fingers to zoom in and out. The images are taken by the 20 Megapixel Navcam pair inside the rover's "head" 2m above the surface, the two 20MP front and rear Hazcam pairs near the ground, Watson Camera on the robotic arm and Cachecam in the underside sample storage bay. A Mars calendar ist now available by long press on the arrow-down button where the day on Mars (sol) can be selected via the position in the astronomical solar year or the date on Earth. Model Colors is an application for helping you keep track of your hobby model colors and projects. Have you ever ended up buying the wrong colors because you didn’t remember the exact code of the color you needed or forgot to get that pesky Dunkelgelb that you needed to finish that glorious tank you’re working on? If so, then Model Colors helps you keep track of the colors that you own and the colors that you need to buy. The application contains lists of all colors from a set of brands and you can browse these lists and mark the ones you already own and the ones you need to buy. Currently the app has over 40000 colors included from most big and many small manufacturers. The lists of your own colors and colors that you need to buy can be easily shared via mail, iMessage etc. If you mainly use some particular color types or individual colors you can set them as favorites and easily access them from the main menu. You can check for colors that are similar to a certain color either via color standards like FS, RAL, RLM etc, or via industry standard CIE deltaE 2000 calculations. Various colors can also be grouped together for quick access into custom color lists. You can keep the colors you normally use for US airplanes in one list and colors you use for fantasy miniatures in another, making them easy to find.
